Frozen Coconut Palm – A Cold-Tolerant Alternative to the Coconut Tree

At first glance this palm maybe mistaken for a coconut palm hence the nickname Frozen Coconut also known as a High Plateau Coconut Palm. It’s is a native of Madagascar. While the fronds look like a coconut palm the Beccariophoenix Alfredii does not produce coconuts. It grows very slowly and is tolerant of temperatures of 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Because of its slow growth it is very good for smaller yards. With no coconuts, it is safe to plant closer to where people may be congregating, providing the tropical look of the coconut palm that so many people want.

The Beccariophoenix Alfredii has not been widely grown commercially because it grows slowly. With the tree growing slowly there is limited availability. Because of this it is often overlooked by landscape architects and landscapers in general. We have the trees.

Beccariophoenix Alfredii can be a attractive accent tree or a striking center piece. In time the tree can reach 30 feet in height. Its leaves have a deep green color with a slightly glossy texture, adding a rich, vibrant tone to any space.

Our Beccario are all field grown and 15-30 feet in height.

The unique form and beauty of this palm make it a great addition for those looking to create a tropical landscape that is not the usual. Because of the trees hardiness it is a fantastic choice for those living in north or central Florida where coconut trees will not survive.
